Also, have the home tested for radon gas by a Maine state certified radon technician (most home inspectors have this designation).  One of every two homes in Maine has radon levels above the level that the EPA recommends having the home mitigated.  Radon gas is estimated to cause more than 21,000 lung cancer deaths annually in the U.S.
